Harriet Cavanagh

One thing is sure - we could not have held Disability Pride Brighton without Harriet. She manages @Scope’s Local People Programme in Brighton and in Hove, supporting local disabled people and unpaid carers to lead projects which will create change in the city. The Local People Programme is funded by @People’s Health Trust and @HealthWish CIC.

Developed and funded projects have included an FGM awareness day, multiple art groups and a choir, community organising training, a parent-carer exhibition, accessible BSL classes, film nights and a screening and an inclusive co-working space. With regard to funding for Disability Pride Brighton, Scope LPP funded our open meeting in March (to which we invited disabled people to come along and have their say) plus the Access Tent and Amaze’s picnic on the day!

Much more than the help through funding though, has been Harriet's unending support of our event and her invaluable guidance and commitment. She has attended almost every meeting with me (Jenny) and has been an absolute rock!

Harriet also facilitates the Scope LPP’s monthly Get Togethers for disabled people and carers to catch up, raise issues, explore ideas and vote on submitted funding applications. If you have a disability or are an unpaid carer, get in touch to find out more and about how you can get involved. You're worth it!
