The wonderful Zelda and Anna will be doing FREE glitter face painting on Sunday. Sorry - we can't supply a mermaid or a Wookiee but we can promise you that the glitter facial designs are amazing. Zelda says that glitter is usually made from plastic or aluminium foil which is damaging to the environment but the glitter she uses is made from biodegradable materials and it is applied with aloe vera so no nasties!

Just approach them on the day and they will paint your face for free!

Come and talk to Star Physio on Sunday. They are a team of three physiotherapists who, in addition to their NHS work, have a hydrotherapy service in Lewes. There is no hydrotherapy service in Brighton and Hove at the moment which is affordable and accessible to their disabled clients.

They are now planning to expand their service to a larger pool in Hove with additional land-based treatments. Their new service will be a non-profit Social Enterprise with the core value of providing affordable aquatic and land physiotherapy for paediatric and adult clients. To fund this exciting project, they are starting a Crowd Funding campaign and fundraising events.

Claire walked innocently into our AGM, little knowing that she would be walking out a couple of hours later having been coerced into being our Treasurer - sorry, Claire!

Claire has worked with various client groups before becoming a mental health nurse and then suddenly found herself on the 'other side of the road', having lost her eyesight and being diagnosed with bipolar.

She feels that her experience of care work and nursing, coupled with her disabilities, give her a unique insight into health and the challenges it brings up.

Thanks for joining us, Claire - you are a wonderful addition!

As I have already mentioned, we are holding our event on the same day as Disability Pride New York City and Disability Pride Italia.

This is a video of solidarity from Mike LeDonne with his daughter, Mary, who was the inspiration behind Mike setting up the first Disability Pride New York City in 2015. Mary has a rare genetic disorder as does my daughter, Charlie.

Mike is a jazz musician and, very sadly, although he has worked tirelessly on his event, he has to go on tour so won't get to be there. He recorded this for us on the evening before going on tour.

Our marvellous Mayor, Mo Marsh, recorded a video last week for Disability Pride New York and Italia.

I would like to thank the lovely Sara Selim for translating it into Italian for us.

Grazie."

" hello, I am no marsh, Mayor of Brighton and hove, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to announce the first disability pride of the city, an event " for and for " people with disabilities. The event also aims to eradicate discrimination against disabled people in our city and will be held on Sunday 9 July 2017 from 14 to 14

The event will be held on the same day of disability pride in New York and of pride italia in Naples but hope is that this event will spread throughout the world and that it can promote the integration of people with all kinds of disabilities, wherever they live.
This event represents an opportunity for our city to unite and show the world that our communities in Brighton and hove do not tolerate discrimination of any kind. Our City has been known for a long time as a place of open-minded, human and open to all... but there is always something more to do and I hope that joining with my colleagues in New York and in Italy can do in Way that pride changes public perception in our cities and shows support for all people with disabilities.
The event will also be an opportunity for us to recognise and thank families, assistants and volunteers - who do so much in our cities to improve the lives of disabled people, but often go unnoticed.

I hope you all enjoy a lot on 9 July, showing your support for disabled people in the city. You can find all the details on the Facebook page and on the site pride site in Brighton.

Finally, I would like to thank Jenny Skelton, President of disability pride in Brighton, for the hard work she has sustained in making this event in the city. You can read the incredibly uplifting story of Jenny on the website of disability pride Brighton. Thank you."

What is this strange thing we call British weather and why doesn't it follow any rules?!

Yesterday, the forecast for Sunday was for rain all day so we made lots of contingency plans. Now, the forecast is for no rain at all.

At least we are used to expecting the unexpected!
